I have so many stories I could tell about this face.
The all-time camp favorite to re-tell is the time she refused to come out of the upper barn (ie the barn that was up a hill, far away, and nobody went to unless they were riding one of 5 or 6 horses who lived there) with me before a jumping lesson. literally braced herself against the ramp leading up and out of the barn.
It took maybe 20 to 30 minutes before somebody realized I hadn’t made it to the lesson, hollered up the hill to me (yes, I just used “hollered” as a verb), and I admitted defeat.
We won’t even go into what happened when I tried to jump her. She was NOT a horse built for anything more than trail riding and learning to sit the trot.
That being said, she’s really the sweetest girl–far too old and creaky to be ridden anymore–but we love her. And she’s pretty beautiful in her old-lady way.
I don’t think anything can top my last couple of teddy photos–but here’s something a little different anyway.
I’m posting right now in an attempt to give myself a break from grad school. And although it didn’t snow today, snow is what we have around here to photograph still!
Here we go last real semester of grad school… This might require lots of photographs. And lots of posts. Just to keep me sane!
Because you all loved yesterday’s photo so much… I thought maybe you’d put up with another one today!
I love this one. Something about blue wall and the layers of snow visible with the shallow depth of field.
In case you were worried and/or wondering, it snowed today too. As long as it stops by my trip to NY next weekend we’ll be good…
and it’s snowed every day since monday.
secretly though? i love it. especially now that i have snow tires on my car… that makes a BIG difference in my sanity.
teddy loves it too. REALLY loves it. to which these next few posts will attest. today we went walking in it until my legs started to get numb, then we headed home…
but just look at that face. and those ridiculous snowy whiskers. he’s the best.
My computer ate a month’s worth of photographs.
I have no idea where they are.
For somebody who obsessively backs up files, both online AND on external hard drives–this is my worst nightmare and something new. I got a little behind on my usual routine this fall, and apparently paid for it. All of August is missing, including my camp and county fair pics. If you know me or this blog at all, you’ll know that taking those photos is one of the highlights of my year.
The whole mess started off a much needed complete renovation of my images and back-up system. I’ve spent maybe 10 hours hunched over my desk so far.
Right now I’m grateful for the fact that I did upload many of the camp ones to smugmug, and that flickr has a few of the best county fair ones, such as this one.
It’s forcing me to remember, however, that having the photos is only half the joy. I’m pretty devastated that the images themselves may be missing, but at least I got to go. At least I had those moments. And the photos aren’t the only memories.
Anyway. My back hurts, and my eyes are a little blurry. And I need to go be productive in the real world.
And back-up your files! Do it now! So you don’t end up like me…
this is not my dog.
he is my future sister-in-law’s dog.
that’s the first time i’ve said that.
anyway. he is adorable. and a little crazy, as puppies are. but could you resist that face?
ok. so i know i’ve said that i have a lot of favorite photos over the years, but yep. this is another new favorite photo.
both john’s sister (you may know her from here: http://eggton.com/) and her boyfriend have birthdays over the christmas/new years holiday season, which means we just get to extend the celebrating!
this was in celebration of his birthday. it was actually a chocolate peanut butter cheesecake. and it was delicious. the dogs tried to eat it–but we told them no.
oh i miss home. and holidays. 11 months until they start again…
