Yesterday brought us the first of the summer thunderstorms. I always associate thunderstorms with summer and camp and virginia afternoons, with days spent in the heat and humidity watching thunderheads build up in the sky until finally they burst right around 4 pm.

This particular thunderstorm brought down many of the peonie blooms that opened this week outside my dorm. I’d been thinking about cutting a few, but seeing them bent towards the ground and dragging in the dirt made the decision easy to make! I rescued them, brought them inside and rinsed them off, and now my room smells like summer.
